In the era of telemedicine, it is important to have accurate medical information, including a physical exam, to help ensure proper treatment and management of prostate health. This is particularly important for men with a male factor (male pattern hair loss). This study aimed to determine whether oral finasteride is effective in treating prostate cancer.
Materials and methods
Materials
A total of 622 patients with prostate cancer between 2008 and 2019 were included. Patients were divided into two groups, according to their treatment strategy. One group received finasteride 1 mg/day orally for three months and another group received finasteride 5 mg/day orally for three months. The patient's baseline characteristics were recorded and evaluated. A prostate biopsy was done in the finasteride group at the end of the treatment. The prostate cancer risk factors were measured by the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) questionnaire.
